Struggling to fix Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals With Kelly Holmes

Core Web Vitals:
The Fix It + Move On Workshop

Starting June 2021, Google will use new metrics for deciding who ranks at the top—but this time it's all about the user's experience on your site, not your content. If you don't want to risk losing your search traffic, that means you need to take this seriously.

After this video workshop for bloggers, you'll have everything you need to tackle your Core Web Vitals performance once and for all so you can protect your search traffic and position yourself well for future growth.

Do you need to worry about Core Web Vitals?

What would honestly happen if you just averted your eyes and hoped this all goes away on its own? That depends. Here are three quick guidelines to help you know whether Core Web Vitals will impact you:

1. Not getting traffic from Google?

If you're currently not getting significant traffic from Google, you can worry about this later. When you get to the point where you want to grow your traffic from search engines, tackle it then.

2. Fine with losing the traffic you're getting?

If losing the traffic you're currently getting from Google doesn't worry you because it's a small piece of the pie and your other traffic sources are stable and lucrative—you can prioritize this lower.

3. Want to maintain or grow search traffic?

If you want to keep the traffic you're currently getting from Google—or if you want to grow your search traffic in the future—improving your Core Web Vitals should be a priority right now.

Research shows that 53% of users will flat-out abandon a web page when it takes longer than 3 seconds to load.

Can't you just hire someone to do this for you?

You can. But here's the tricky part: Every blogger is trying to hit the same goal at the same time, so most of the technical experts you can hire to fix your site's performance have waiting lists.

Even if you were to find someone available, it might not be in your budget. Some firms with a comprehensive "we'll fix your Core Web Vitals" package have a five-figure price tag.

You could get knee-deep in research online to figure out what you need to do to fix your scores. Some people enjoy that sort of work, so that might be the right choice for them. But if you're the sort of person who just wants to know exactly what needs to be done so that you can move on to other more enjoyable blogging work, this workshop is for you.

To be clear, you will still be doing the work on your own site. I'll lead you through the process, but I can't fix your site for you. For context, hiring me as a consultant to run through this process for your site and make recommendations would start at $1,200.

But if you're ready to roll up your sleeves, I'll lead you through the process to fix your Core Web Vitals scores once and for all, step by step.

What kind of results can you expect?

To be clear, no magic silver bullet will fix everything for you.

Every site has countless variables at play. Nobody can predict which specific combination of steps will turn out to be the fix for your specific site—just as nobody can guarantee your site is even capable of achieving a perfect score of 100 on mobile and 100 on desktop.

But perfection isn't the goal. You just need to get to good enough so you can move on. In the end, you may not get to a score of 100/100, but even Google doesn't expect that.

When you follow the streamlined process in this workshop, you'll zero in on the specific underlying issues that are hurting your scores so you can fix them.

This is one of those times in life when good enough is still very much worth celebrating.

Fixing Core Web Vitals will make your readers happy, too.

After this workshop, you'll have what you need to defend your search rankings. But more importantly, your readers will end up sticking around on your site longer, which brings with it some pretty great side effects...

Readers want fast sites. When your page load time increases from 1 second to 3 seconds, the probability of a user bouncing increases by 32%.

When readers don't abandon ship right away, they're more likely to visit more than one page. One study found a half-second faster load time generated 20% more page views.

Faster pages convert. According to research, improving load time by just 0.1 second can boost your conversion rates by 8% so you're selling more products or making more affiliate sales.

Readers who leave in the first 3 seconds won't share. But when readers stick around to the end of a post, they're more likely to share it with someone they know.

With a 0.1 second improvement on load time, customers also spent 10% more, increasing average order values.

Keep more readers on site, and you'll have a better chance at converting them to email subscribers.

About Kelly Holmes, Your Instructor

I've grown my own site—a parenting blog—from nothing into a thriving business that supports my family of six. Three years ago, my husband was even able to quit his corporate day job to stay home with our four kids. (Bless him!)

But for more than 15 years before I started my site, I worked as a professional writer and editor at a billion-dollar company. My first quest in that job? Learn a programming language and teach customers how to use it. Customers who knew nothing about programming to start with.

This meant I had to get comfortable with highly technical concepts and tasks – quickly. But I'm incredibly thankful that I had this experience early in my career. Because it helped me perfect the art of translating technical gobbledygook into something that actually makes sense to real people.

And that's exactly what I do inside this workshop. I also partnered with a web developer to review the whole workshop start to finish so you can feel confident that everything we cover is based on the best practices for sites today.

Now, let's fix your Core Web Vitals scores so you can get back to doing what you love about blogging.

Got a question?

Is this training for self-hosted WordPress bloggers only?

Core Web Vitals affects all bloggers who want to maintain or grow search traffic, no matter the platform you use to publish your content. That's why the basic steps we cover inside the workshop are steps all bloggers will need to consider.

With that said, certain platforms do have some limitations as to how many options are at your disposal for addressing each major factor contributing to your Core Web Vitals scores. For example, in some situations self-hosted WordPress bloggers might be able to use a specific plugin to address an issue—whereas bloggers on other platforms might need to use a tool outside their platform or potentially contact their platform's tech support.

How much time will this workshop take?

The pre-work videos you'll complete before the workshop will take about 1.5 hours to watch, or you can read the transcript instead if you prefer.

The pre-recorded video workshop will take 2 hours to watch—or less than 1.5 hours if you watch at 1.5x speed. And if you have to stop at any point, you can pause the video and come back later to pick up where you left off.

Do I get lifetime access to the workshop and pre-work?

Yes! You get lifetime access to the workshop recording and all pre-work materials inside your course dashboard.

How is this workshop different from your SEO course?

Improving site performance is a separate topic that goes beyond the scope of optimizing your content for search engines. Therefore, while I will be updating the Sticky SEO course to include self-paced guidance on what Core Web Vitals are and general best practices, the larger topic of overall site performance is beyond the scope of that course.

If you'd like a step-by-step process for improving your site performance, this workshop is focused on that specific goal.

Will I need any special tools or programs to go through the workshop?

This workshop is designed as a cost-conscious approach to help bloggers who don't already have a tech expert on call. But as you dig into your site to fix the issues dragging down your Core Web Vitals scores, you might want to invest in a couple small tools to help you. Nothing extravagant—just essentials to make sure your site is usable for readers. Ultimately, that's a business decision you'll need to make, weighing the importance of keeping or growing your search traffic against the cost of any tools to help you do that.
